The National Hemophilia Foundation (NHF) is developing “Steps for Living,” a comprehensive, interactive Web site.

It will provide in-depth educational and instructional materials for people with bleeding disorders, and their families, as they move from birth to adulthood. The curriculum will be broken into three stages: First Step, for ages 0–8; Next Step, for ages 9–15; and Stepping Out, for ages 16–25.

First Step will focus on the basics of bleeding disorders, providing information and support on insurance and childcare issues and how to negotiate the relationship between parents and providers. It will also offer medical checklists, downloadable resources and an array of videos and podcasts.

Next Step, scheduled for launch in 2013, will focus on education, independence and healthy decision-making.

Stepping Out will focus on the transition from high school to college and beyond.

“Steps for Living” is funded jointly through a cooperative agreement with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and an educational grant from Pfizer.
