Living with hemophilia and an inhibitor can be isolating; people with inhibitors constitute a small portion of an already small community. The National Hemophilia Foundation (NHF) is pleased to offer two opportunities for people with inhibitors and their families. The 2011 Inhibitor Education Summits will be held June 16–19 in Miami and July 14–17 in San Francisco.
The summits are a way to receive educational information tailored to people with hemophilia and inhibitors. Experts, including hematologists, physical therapists, social workers and nurses, will provide information and answer questions on a variety of topics. In addition, consumers can share stories and coping strategies with others.
The program is divided into four tracks: “beginner” and “intermediate” tracks for people new to inhibitors; a track for adolescents with inhibitors and their siblings; and a track for adult men with inhibitors. Each one offers informal rap sessions and sessions providing information on new research and treatments, sports and exercise, insurance, and relationships and intimacy. Baby care and child care are available, as is a youth education camp for kids. Travel and accommodation assistance is available to eligible attendees.
The 2011 Inhibitor Education Summits are supported by an educational grant from Novo Nordisk.
