The XXIX International Congress of the World Federation of Hemophilia (WFH) was the most successful Hemophilia World Congress to date. More than 4,300 participants from 106 countries attended the four-day event in Buenos Aires, Argentina, July 10–14, 2010.

During the Congress, the WFH’s Resource Center focused on the theme “Many Faces of Bleeding Disorders,” which reflected the varied makeup of the global community. One participant from the Philippines said the diversity of the Congress participants illustrated that the issue is worldwide. “It shows there are a lot of people and members of society involved.”

Hemophilia 2010 World Congress provided the largest international scientific meeting place for the global bleeding disorders community. Renowned treatment and research experts from around the world participated. Breakthroughs in hemophilia and other inherited bleeding disorders research were presented.

On July 10, 2010, practical pre-Congress workshops addressed key topics in nursing, physical therapy, orthopedics, psychosocial issues, laboratory science and gene therapy. Other sessions ran the gamut from women with bleeding disorders to how to publish a scientific paper. In the pre-Congress musculoskeletal-orthopedic session, participants had the rare opportunity to observe two live surgical procedures on patients with hemophilia.

The medical and multidisciplinary programs provided a rich diversity of presentations in the plenary and scientific sessions. They included basic science reviews, updates from clinical trials, commentaries on regulatory and training issues and late-breaking news.
